City to explore annual budget Monday

AUGUSTA — The public hearing for the 2018 Augusta city budget is scheduled for Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

The actual tax rate last year was 51.978 mills. This year that amount will increase to 55.414 mills. Debt service, general fund and employee benefit increases make up the largest portion of that increase. The debt will increase next year to cover a multi-street bond issue to replace streets on the north end of Ohio St.

The city’s estimate for total tax revenues is estimated at $29,064,895. The assessed valuation is $57,702,641.

Ward 4 Councilman Justin Londagin shared the following illustrations that break down the budget to be more understandable.
